India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.61%

Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Power, Metals and Auto sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.61%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.46%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC), which rose 7.47% or 6.60 points to trade at 95.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) added 4.79% or 965.85 points to end at 21110.00 and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) was up 4.71% or 7.60 points to 168.80 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were State Bank Of India (NS:SBI), which fell 1.55% or 3.05 points to trade at 193.45 at the close. Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) declined 1.47% or 7.75 points to end at 520.85 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) was down 1.28% or 5.30 points to 407.95.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which rose 7.92% to 95.40, Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which was up 4.27% to settle at 3115.35 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which gained 3.62% to close at 721.10.

The worst performers were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 1.73% to 193.05 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which lost 1.42% to settle at 521.40 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 1.07% to 2091.45 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1021 to 590 and 85 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1547 rose and 1058 declined, while 154 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.68% to 21.3075.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.65% or 12.60 to $1962.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.14% or 0.06 to hit $41.95 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.31% or 0.14 to trade at $44.66 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.03% to 74.855, while EUR/INR rose 0.06% to 88.7025.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 92.977.
